& Cudder I think is pretty divisive, for one thing he's mega depressed and mopey for a hip hop artist, and his lyrics are very blunt at best, but at the same time there's few people in the genre as honest and emotionally open. You'll either empathize or think it's weak shit.

His first two albums are pretty loved but after that the quality immediately gets really dodgy, with Speedin' Bullet considered one of the absolute worst albums of the last few years, it was one of the lowest rated albums of all time on RYM when I checked.

I wouldn't say it's *that* bad but I can see why it's hated, it's outright annoying to listen to, the lyrics are pretty bad and the instrumentals sound like a teenager trying to be a one-man version of Nirvana after just two weeks of learning guitar. It's lo-fi in the least pleasing way. It's also waaaaay too long. But at the same time it's extremely raw and it just goes so far in its own direction that there's not much else like it, it's nearly like captain beefheart but presumably unintentional. It's a shit album to be sure but I kind of enjoy at the same time.

Sounds like an INTERESTING LISTENING EXPERIENCE. You've pushed me closer to giving this a full dedicated listen after that description.

you're uotd

Almost a decade in the community and i finally made it. Also hello Gimmick long time no type through the internet

is that U in yr icon?? omg you're quite the looker !

Yes that is me while on set filming "The War Games" in 1968. If only i had retained my girlish charm throughout the years.

Oh shit guess who's user of the gay
I think on YT they can auto-detect music uploaded by fans, monetize it and then route that money to the record companies. Which I don't mind, that's way better than taking the video down or not having an artists songs on youtube at all like fuckin' kanye,

But yea, I haven't seen them in a long while but the length of the ads are pretty mental, why on earth would they purposely put the longest ads on the site in front of songs god damn

Steam makes a dubious promise that anything you buy will be available even if the service shuts down. I think a better approach is GoG's, where there's no DRM at all so you can make hard copies or whatever you want, and torrent/sharing sites are full of GoG installers. The site could shut down tomorrow and the full catalogue would still be accessible elsewhere.

I have absolutely no doubt that my digital xbox and playstation collections will both be ash in the wind before I finish them all, though.

I outright refuse to pay for digital films for the most part, with the exception of independent distribution where they just give you the download file to do what you want with. Even blu rays are too restrictive imo (imagine if you could just rip them like CDs) but I do have a good few and an irrational desire to buy a physical copy of everything I like.

i promise i won't let this site-wide fame get to my head. I'm just a regular guy like you.

congrats on uotd

Same here, haven't seen ya in a long time. I'm always around, but I guess I don't actively participate in the community as I used to.

Hmm, how many other regulars are there who've done the same thing, I wonder..?

@Jackho you want obscurity? What about ol' TAFKA-Prince?

I have a feeling there are plenty of us that still visit the site every day but don't actually post anything. I've been almost exclusively in three Clubs&Crews threads for the past couple years. I visit General now and then but don't really have anything to say on most of the topics

True dat. Nowadays, whenever I'm online, you'll find me mostly on the chat. I don't see much point in going to General, and while I used to go to the the Flash/Game development forum, nowadays its all but dead (except for the occasional advertisement) so I don't have much to do on the forums. Chat, though? There's something attractive about ephemeral, useless rambling that won't be recorded at all.

I always join the chat and then forget i have the tab open and sit there silently for an hour or two

what do you make of Captain Beefheart and Trout Mask Replica

Captain Beefheart is a crazy dude and it's a crazy album. The precision of the band with those wonky rhythms is amazing, and I genuinely enjoy a good number of tracks on it (Frownland, Ella Guru, My Human Gets Me Blues, Sugar N Spikes). Calling it a "novelty" doesn't feel like I'm giving it justice because some serious effort went into making it, but I don't think it's a masterpiece that is "too deep". Also Bat Chain Puller is better.

Every time I listened to Trout Mask I'd immediately start laughing at just how bizarre and unforgiving it is right from the first moment. I hadn't listened to it in ages but I was showing it to a friend like a week ago who'd never heard of it, hit play and I expected to laugh again... but I was like holy shit, this actually sounds kinda good this time. Not an album I've been hugely into overall but it is interesting. I never looked into their other stuff either.

It's such a strange and ballsy record that you have to respect it though. If it were like 35 minutes it'd be manageable too but of course it's ridiculously fuckin long as well, back when double albums were double expensive too

idk how much you've read about the recording of the album, but the backstory is just as crazy too. Serious effort went into that thing and it shows when you listen to it with a careful ear.

What music software do you use?

also >900 plays for the heckin' Ink Spots on last.fm. well I can't say I was expecting that

I use foobar2000 and will not settle for anything else.

yeah i went through a big vocal jazz phase for a while and for some reason scrobbled them far more than anyone else. idk

JUST AS I SUSPECTED. Show us your foobar setup son. My current one looks like dis -

I haven't looked into the making of Trout Mask actually, though I've always had no doubt that the final product sounds exactly how they wanted it to.

i keep it simple i keep it clean i keep it real https://www.newgrounds.com/dump/item/7892c92bd2e0a888422f1530fe187dfa

To sum it up in one paragraph: The band was essentially trapped in a house that Beefheart rented with no money, eating one can of beans a day for weeks on end, practicing 14 hours a day while getting verbally and physically abused by Beefheart in a psychological experiment of sorts. Then the full album was recorded in a single session (excluding a few bits that were previously recorded).

I used itunes for years so I want that coverflow (though itunes itself scrapped that years ago too). I just like seeing all the album covers lined up and prefer finding them based on the visuals rather than the names

finally gave Room on Fire a spin. can confirm Reptilia did indeed set my room on fire

did the fire department make it in time to save your kanye west shrine

no but it's mostly laminated anyway that's fireproof right

After a few more listens I think it dips in the second have, but the first 5 tracks are str8 fyah

me if i didn't 100% suck at piano

ever come across jeffrey lewis? this is pretty much my favorite song right now

Look at Jackho, hogging all the comments. Just had a quick skim and damn, so many users have commented here that I forgot existed. It's like a time capsule.

makes ya feel old, doesn't it? i miss my friends.

Only the cool kids from that era are left. Just realising my account will be 10 years old next month
